Photo @andy_mann // The sperm whale is the largest toothed predator on Earth, rich in lore and history. I had hoped to photograph this gentle giant on a recent marine expedition to the Azores, a Portuguese archipelago made up of nine volcanic islands in the North Atlantic Ocean. After an exhausting afternoon working in rough seas with poor visibility, I finally slipped in and drifted with the current into a large pod of calves socializing on the surface. Within minutes, several large adults rose from the depths and circled me. Moments later they effortlessly disappeared back into the deep. #followme @andy_mann to see more amazing seascapes from the Azores.

Photo by @andrea_frazzetta // Sunset over the Amazon Forest, Iquitos, Perú. The Peruvian Amazon comprises 60% of the country and is marked by a large degree of biodiversity. Perú has the second-largest portion of the Amazon rainforest after the Brazilian Amazon. Rain forests play an invaluable role in sustaining life, but every year, large portions of them are cut down for logging, mining, and cattle ranches. @andrea_frazzetta @instituteartist #perú #amazonforest #rainforest

Photo by @KristaRossow. Wandering around the fortified town of Ait Benhaddou in #Morocco felt like walking amidst giant sandcastles from another era. It is no wonder this UNESCO site has been used as a set for many films and television shows. For more Morocco images from a recent photo expedition with @NatGeoExpeditions, visit me @KristaRossow.

📸 @johnkernickphotography The Seven Sisters are a series of chalk cliffs, situated in the South Downs National Park near Eastbourne in Sussex. The area is popular with walkers, bird watchers and cyclists. Although the cliffs are slowly being eroded into the sea they make up one of the UKs finest unspoiled coastlines. . . . . . #sevensisters #ukcountryside #cliffs #resilient

Photo @pedromcbride // Dry artery: Colorado River Delta’s dry landscape. Freshwater ecosystems are home to more than 40 percent of the world's fish species. Despite their value and importance, many lakes, rivers, and wetlands around the world are being severely damaged and drained by human activities and are declining at a much faster rate than terrestrial ecosystems. #coloradoriver #freshwater #delta #climatechange

Photo by @michaelclarkphoto // Our yacht moored in a harbor just south of the Lofoten Islands in northern Norway. After days of dark clouds the weather was still a bit rough but we found a safe harbor and explored this remote area. Lofoten is one of the new international hotspots for tourism and especially for landscape photographers. It has incredibly steep spectacular mountains that rise straight out of the ocean. #lofoten #lofotenislands #norway

Video by @tobyharriman // Flying by Knik Glacier was incredible. That black dirt covering the glacier is known as cryoconite, which is very fine textured dust made of a combination of small rock particles, soot and bacteria. Over time, the accumulation of cryoconite has caused a phenomenon scientists call “biological darkening.” As the powdery dust built up on snow, glaciers and icecaps, it got buried within the ice. However in a self-accelerating process, as more cryoconite is exposed, it further increases the rate of melting and therefore the visual darkening of the glacier. Photo by @andywcoleman // How can you get one of the most beautiful views in Yosemite National Park all to yourself - go at midnight. We were heading back to the South Gate of the park after photographing the lunar rainbow and stopped here for a few minutes to enjoy this vista in total solitude. Earlier in the day, this area was so full, we couldn't even find parking. The full moon came out from the clouds long enough to light up the valley and the walls of El Capitan. If you look closely, you can see two headlights of night climbers on the dark side of the cliffs. #FindYourPark

Photo by @benhortonphoto // We've been getting up early and heading to the East Cape of Baja to surf the last few days. Today wasn't the best surf, but walking along this stretch of desert road it didn't seem to matter. With so few people around we were just happy to be there.

Video by @bertiegregory. This Sri Lankan elephant calf was having a great time splashing around in the shallows. That was until this moment when a little bump from its mother meant it lost its footing. I imagine a more experience elephant would have just poked its trunk up above the surface to breathe. Instead, it struggled to its feet before exploding out of the water to get some air! Clearly shaken by the whole experience, it ran out of the pool and wouldn't come back in to join its mother! Shot during a leopard project for @natgeo, @natgeowild and @stevewinterphoto. Follow @bertiegregory for more wildlife adventures!
