Photo: @andy_mann // Only 10% of an iceberg is visible above the water. The vast majority is hidden in the icy depths. With enough exposure to the elements the top will eventually whither away and top the scales, sending the whole monster barreling upside down. We discovered this first hand while #onassignment for @natgeo & @natgeopristineseas when this exact iceberg flipped on us while we were in the water. Luckily, we escaped with some lessons learned and a good story. Shot in Franz Josef Land, Russia 2013. // #followme @andy_mann for stories from the Arctic and Antarctic regions of our blue planet. @sea_legacy

Photo by @CarltonWard // I set a camera trap at this location in South Florida's Fakahatchee Strand aiming to capture a Florida panther navigating the swamp forest. This spot was dry from February through the first week of June. Then 17 inches of rain fell in a single week. Panthers will be seeking higher ground but this gator must be happy to have the freedom to roam through its watery wilderness. Please follow @carltonward to discover the #pathofthepanther. @fl_wildcorridor #gator #swamp #floridawild #keepflwild

Photo by @shonephoto (Robbie Shone) with words by adventure writer and presenter @CharlieBoscoe - The fact that a cold, dark tunnel can look welcoming towards the end of a freezing autumn day tells you everything about how hostile the Dolomites can be. In the height of summer, the prospect of temporarily living in these tunnels, as thousands of soldiers did, seems unappealing but conceivable. Come autumn, it is horrifying. As for winter…

Photo by @babaktafreshi Swipe left to see this panoramic view of stars in the morning twilight above Yellowstone National Park. The roaring Yellowstone Falls (the Lower) drops 308 feet (94m), almost twice as much as Niagara, and the river continues in a colorful valley known as the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. Avid stargazers might recognize the little reddish cloud in the center of the first slide: the Lagoon Nebula in Sagittarius. Photo @chrisburkard A small plane flies above a glacial river in Iceland's highlands. Tightly woven braids of shallow water mixed with glacial sediment & islands of black sand give this landscape an alien look. Best viewed from above, this landscape Is often hard to gain perspective on, a yellow piper cub helps do the trick. For more images of these rivers follow @chrisburkard

Photo by @andrea_frazzetta // South Africa, Limpopo province, Night in the Village of Baleni. The Milky Way as seen through the tree branches that overhang the village. The village of Baleni is situated near the banks of the Little Letaba River, on a land belonging to the Mahumani traditional community. Baleni is an environment where nature and spiritualism have a rich integration. To the local salt makers women, the warm water, the rising bubbles and the sulphurous smell that emanates from the swamp are all signs that bind Baleni with the spiritual world. @andrea_frazzetta @instituteartist #Africa #Southafrica

@FransLanting His name is Mushamuka. He was a silverback eastern gorilla, a male in his prime. I met him after tracking through dense forest in the eastern Congo with rangers who knew every gorilla by face and name in this protected area, Kahuzi-Biega National Park. We salute the people who have made it their calling to protect these remarkable great apes. All gorilla populations are under threat. We encourage you to support those who are doing what they can to ensure our next of kin survive in the wild—and we encourage you to visit the gorillas, if you have the opportunity. Money earned through gorilla tourism provides funds for conservation projects and brings jobs and other benefits to local communities. Follow me @FransLanting for more stories of great apes in the wild. @natgeo @natgeocreative @thephotosociety @world_wildlife @thewcs #Gorilla #Congo #Primate #Jungle #GorillaTourism

Photo @materas // An 11 mile hike at over 10,000' in elevation will get you to Island Lake in the Wind River Range, Wyoming. The Winds, as they are known, are a sub-range of the Rocky Mountains. They are less known than their Teton siblings but a bigger range that also contains the highest peak in Wyoming, Gannett Peak at 13,804'. The Winds are also mostly wilderness area with over 150 alpine glaciers and over 1,000 lakes. Video by @bertiegregory. Leopards are one of the most adaptable animals on the planet, able to live in mountains, savannahs, deserts, jungles and even cities. Part of the key to their success is their amazing ability to disappear. For example, during a leopard assignment for @natgeo and @natgeowild, @stevewinterphoto and I found that most of the people who walked the same trails as leopards in the city parks of Mumbai had no idea the leopards were there! Certain species are able to find a way to live alongside us, we must use aspire to do the same. I filmed this beautiful leopard in Yala National Park, Sri Lanka. Follow @bertiegregory for more wildlife adventures!

📸 @johnkernickphotography Kayaking the Broken Group Islands off of Vancouver Island. On a day like today it looks more like the Carribean than the West coast of Canada. The Broken Group is a group of small islands in the middle of Barkley Sound on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. The group is protected as the Broken Islands Group Unit of the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. It is also home to the Tseshaht First Nation. . . . . #brokengroupislands #pacificrimnationalpark #britishcolumbia #Canada #kayaking #johnkernickphotography #tseshahtfirstnation

Photo by @christian_foto (Christian Rodriguez) Mexico city is located inside Mexico's Valley, also called Mexico's basin. This valley is located at the trans-mexican volcanic belt. It has an altitude of approximately 2,200 meters (7,200 feet) above sea level. Surrounded by mountains and volcanoes that reach elevations over 5,000 meters (16,000 feet). This valley has no natural drainage outlet for the waters that flow from the mountains, making the city vulnerable to flooding. First drainages were builded at the beginning of 17th century, using canals and tunnels. Photo by @christian_foto #mexicocity #valley #mexico

Photo by @shonephoto (Robbie Shone) // words by adventure writer and presenter @CharlieBoscoe - As the stars and the first rays of sun battle to fill the sky, the Tre Cime mountains remain resolute and unflinching. These peaks have provided countless mountaineers with incredible joy but they have been the backdrop to some brutal wartime battles. If they could speak, what would they tell us?
